For a number of years, the volunteers of the Bonaria Walk have chosen to enter into dialogue with inmates of the three prison facilities crossed by the path (Mamone, Badu ‘e Carros and Quartucciu), creating a space for discussion and mutual support. Not only those who are detained are called to take stock of themselves: even those who have remained outside must question and challenge themselves in order to give the best of themselves. This is why we decided to set out together, to listen to each other and confront each other, to understand and find new motivation to get back up every day, free, while being aware of one’s responsibilities.
For three days we will walk from Mamone to Badu ‘e Carros: volunteers and prisoners, side by side, in silence, accompanied by the rhythm of footsteps. The real judgment will come from life: each will be called to account for his or her walk and give an account of the energy expended to improve the world.
Here is the program.
May 1. At 7:30 a.m. departure from the Mamone penal colony. Along with the volunteers of the Bonaria walk will be friends from the Icaro and Su Golostiu Associations of Bitti, who have been volunteering in the penal facility and in the area for years. They will walk until they reach the archaeological site of Romanzesu, then straight to Bitti. The Mamone inmates will be housed in the San Giorgio parish house, thanks to the commitment and participation in the project of Don Totoni Cossu.
May 2. At 8:30 a.m. we depart from Bitti along the stage to Lula with a stop in Onanì. It will arrive at the Sanctuary of St. Francis of Lula where a welcome by the priory of St. Francis is scheduled.
May 3. 7:30 a.m. Meet at the Approdi Community at km 15.2 of the Lula-Nuoro stage. Friends of Approdi will offer coffee to pilgrims before setting out for Nuoro. On this stage there will also be some inmates from the Badu ‘e Carros prison. With the Bonaria volunteers will be the prison chaplain, Fr. Roberto Dessolis, and Caritas volunteers who work with the prison facility in Nuoro. At 1 p.m. they are scheduled to arrive in Badu ‘e Carros, specifically at the traffic circle where the Siste Viator stone is placed. There will be a gazebo for the reception and stamping of the credential. The prisoners will be given the Bonaria Walk Credential, with the hope of completing it as soon as possible with the arrival at Bonaria.
