On June 14, 2025, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria, we officially launched the Bonaria Pilgrimage. We all still cherish the deep emotion of that special day. There were many of us, having come from all over Sardinia and even from other regions of Italy, particularly Lombardy and Lazio.
The mayors of the thirty towns and villages along the Bonaria Trail were in attendance, along with numerous institutional officials, including the President of the Region of Sardinia, Alessandra Todde. Regional and national media were also present, underscoring the importance of the event. On that occasion, the guide to the Pilgrimage Route, edited by the association’s president, Antonello Menne, was also presented.
It was a day of great celebration, as it marked the moment when we finally put to the test a project born of a dream and brought to life thanks to five years of hard work along the 353 kilometers connecting Olbia to Cagliari. We set off excited but calm, knowing we had accomplished everything we had promised ourselves when, five years earlier, we founded the Association in Lula.
Today, one year after its launch, we can say with satisfaction that the Pilgrimage is yielding many positive signs and reasons for hope. Numerous pilgrims are walking it: men and women from all over Italy and abroad, joined by an increasing number of young people who choose to embark on this experience at the end of the school year.
One of the most appreciated aspects is the extraordinary hospitality that pilgrims encounter at every stage of the journey, thanks to the invaluable network of local contacts and volunteers who give their time and share their generosity to welcome and guide those walking the Camino.
Of course, there is still much to be done. We must continue to improve infrastructure, expand accommodation facilities, and enhance the services we offer to pilgrims. That is why we continue to ask for the cooperation and support of everyone: pilgrims, mayors, parish priests, associations, and citizens.
We ask for the help of all those who, like us, have believed and continue to believe, in a true spirit of volunteerism, in this great project that leads to the shrine of Our Lady of Bonaria.
