“Come on, let’s do it!” I say to Carlo, excited just reading the title of the guidebook: The Way of
Bonaria. We have been in Sardinia for two weeks with our camper, Isotta.
Carlo looks at me as if to say “no way”: it is late June and the heat is already unbearable. I
insist, but understand that I have to wait. Months pass and inside me the desire to do the Camino
remains etched, like initials on a log. At the end of September, Daniela, whom we met in Calasetta, asks us:
“So, when are you leaving?” I answer almost without thinking, “In early October we do the Camino,
then we leave Sardinia.” “But does Carlo know?” he asks me. “Yes … no … I mean, he will come!” That evening
I feel it is time. Carlo asks me what our next stop will be and I talk to him
calmly, “I need to do the Camino. I understand if you don’t feel like it, but for me it is something that
comes from within.” He looks at the guidebook on the table, “Ah, again with this guidebook….”
“I never abandoned the idea. I just waited for the heat to pass. And I want to do it like the
pilgrims….” “And how would you like to do that?” “In a tent!” I answer confidently. I imagine the earth as
mattress and the sky as the roof. Carlo doesn’t seem convinced, but he knows that when I talk like this I don’t
change my mind.
The next day I see him with the guidebook in his hand: he inquires about everything. Then he tells me, “All right, let’s
do it.” I smile. “Perfect, then the tent…” “But there are also places to sleep here…”
“I don’t care. I want to be free, not forced to stay overnight where I don’t feel I want to be. In
tent. It will be a unique experience.”
October 4, 2025, 6 a.m.: we are ready: backpack, sleeping bag, tent.
Don’t let fears stop you, they exist only in the mind. It was an incredible experience,
total. It filled us up and above all freed us from the fears that seem to dominate everyone today. The tent
takes you out of your comfort zone and reminds you that you are never alone: nature welcomes you, protects you,
surprises you. And magic happens. Nature, history, humanity seem to dance together in one
harmony. You come to believe in people again. Doing the Bonaria Walk in a tent is an
extraordinary opportunity to encounter happiness. The rest … you will discover for yourself.

PS: I still feel great gratitude to all of you on the Camino and to the visionary who
created it.
