I set out on this journey to discover Sardinia away from the coast and the bright lights. I succeeded: I experienced the great generosity and hospitality of the Sardinians, a wonderful people.
How could I forget: Maria Carmela, Lia and Tonino, Giuseppina, Mariangela, the young man (it’s unforgivable that I can’t remember his name) who, on the climb to Nuoro, offered me a beer—which then turned into three—Maria, Mario, the former miner, Sergio from the Horo brewery, Angelina and her ravioli, and Fiorella. The mayor of Samatzai, who took me to city hall to treat me to a coffee.
Everyone told me about their lives, leaving me with an indelible memory. The list could go on and on.
A special thanks to Paola, who hasn’t left my side since the Orotelli leg, supporting me every day with a message—and how could I forget Anna’s boundless energy and liveliness?
Thank you for showing me breathtaking views, but thank you to all the people of Sardinia.
Standing in front of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Bonaria, I was overcome with emotion—I never thought I’d be able to cover such a long distance without feeling tired.
