Today was the day I returned home, and I’m already missing the Camino, which I finished yesterday!
I’ve wanted to walk this pilgrimage route for a long time, ever since I saw a sign for the Bonaria Pilgrimage Route at the Shrine of St. Francis in Lula—which came as a big surprise and piqued my curiosity.
I find the guidebook at a newsstand and read it over and over again. My desire to walk grows. I’m intrigued by its format—the fact that in every town there are contacts and volunteers ready to welcome pilgrims.
Well, the long-awaited day of departure has arrived. I can’t believe it! I arrive in Olbia on the evening of September 16, and I’m so excited I can’t sleep. On the 17th, I set off toward Berchiddeddu.
The welcome is outstanding—as it is, in fact, at every stop along the way. The experience far exceeds all my expectations. In every town, I find helpful and warm-hearted people who make me feel like part of the family.
For me, having lived for so many years far from my beloved Sardinian homeland, all this warmth builds into a crescendo of emotions that encourage me to keep going, despite my fatigue.
It brings me immense joy to REUNITE with my people and know that I am part of them. This gives me great satisfaction.
What can I say about the journey, the grandeur of the landscapes—which sometimes move me to tears—and the silence that speaks to me and brings me peace and serenity of mind in these chaotic times?
This trail, so well organized—from the signage to the unbroken landscape—gives me hope that there really is a better world than the one they’re trying to sell us.
All it takes is the willingness to approach things with an open heart and mind, ready to embrace all the beauty that surrounds us!
I recommend that everyone have this experience, which is so enriching in every way—especially on a human level.
A million thanks to the tireless organizers—because there’s always something new to do, and I know they never stop. Curious and attentive, always on top of things, with their reassuring presence.
