Sardinia is also under a heat alert these days.
The Bonaria Trail crosses the island’s interior ridges, and in some areas the heat can be particularly intense. For this reason, it is important to follow the guidelines below.
– Try to set out at first light, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures;
– Consider breaking up your hike into shorter segments to avoid walking during the hottest part of the day, after noon;
– Fill your water bottles before you set out and refill them at stops along the way. Drink in small, steady sips, and wet your head, wrists, and ankles;
– Wear a hat and sunglasses;
– Before going outside, apply sunscreen to exposed areas of your body;
– As soon as you find a tree, a house, or any other shaded area, stop to rest;
– Bring only fruit with you, and eat only at the end of the stage when you reach your destination. – Don’t walk alone; walk with others.
