This stage can be broken into two. It is challenging in length and elevation gain, both uphill and downhill. So it can be scheduled as follows: Fordongianus – Usellus: km 28.4. Tomorrow you can set off for Sini (km 8.7) or aim directly for the next stage to Barumini (km 22.4). If you have “gas” in your body, you can do all of today’s stage, which is Fordongianus-Sini: km 37.7. The stage is managed unitarily for accommodations, if you should not find accommodation in Usellus you can call the facilities and contact persons in Sini.
The stage is one of the most beautiful on the Camino. After leaving Fordongianus you climb Mount Grighine. From its height of about 700 m, you can see Mount Arci, the Giara plateau, the Gulf of Oristano, Montiferru and then the queen of the Sardinian mountains: the Gennargentu. The roads are tidy and well-maintained, entrusted to the management and care of the Forestas Agency, a strict guardian of Sardinia’s forests and nature. At km 11.5 the descent into Alta Marmilla begins. At km 21.5 you will enter the built-up area of Mogorella, where you can stop for refreshments and to collect the stamp on your credential at the stage contact person or at the municipality offices you find along the way. Leaving the town of Mogorella (km 22.1 km) you will follow an ancient Roman road until you enter Usellus (km 28.2): you will be greeted by the Siste Viator stone right next to the Roman bridge. If you still have “gasoline” in your body, you can continue following the arrows of the Way, passing through the village of Albagiara (km 31.3), which you will leave on the right to, then, arrive at the entrance of Sini (km 37.1), all on dirt roads. In this village is the oldest olive tree in Sardinia, and in its shade is placed a Siste Viator stone, recalling the example and wisdom of Eleonora d’Arborea.
For those who do not feel up to continuing, after 21 km they can stop to sleep in Mogorella and the next day continue to Sini, covering the other 16.2 km.
